Living in Balance Program

Tropical Oasis uses the Living in Balance program produced by Hazelden as a method of helping our clients achieve a better understanding of addiction and alcoholism.  Living in Balance Combines experiential, cognitive-behavioral, and Twelve Step thinking.  Living in Balance is Recognized by the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices.  The conceptual framework for the living in balance program is that addiction is a chronic, progressive, relapsing condition that involves compulsion, loss of control, continued use despite negative consequences, and relapse.  Addiction is a Bio psychosocial problem affecting all areas of the client's lives.  Therefore effective drug treatment must also have a strong impact on all these areas.

Bio psychosocial 

The Bio psychosocial drug and alcohol treatment model is an approach that has proven itself over time. The essence of the Bio psychosocial model is to treat the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to addiction.  All chemical dependency/ addiction effects the cells (Biology), the emotions, attitudes, and behavior (psychology), and relationships (sociology).  We believe that treatment in all these areas is essential for the recovery process to be successful.

Dual Diagnosis

The term "dual diagnosis" is used to describe the co morbid condition of a person who is suffering from a mental illness and a substance abuse problem. Depression, eating disorders, anxiety, bipolar disorder, attention deficit disorder and personality disorders are all examples of co-occurring conditions.  There are many different theories regarding dual diagnosis.  The causality theory, the self medication theory, the alleviation of dysphoria theory, multiple risk factor theory and the super sensitivity theory are all designed to explain the relationship between mental illness and substance abuse. 

Dual Diagnosis Program

Our multidisciplinary team of licensed and certified counselors and therapists use a wide variety of treatment approaches tailored to the individual needs of each patient. Through our individualized, integrated approach, our patients strive for wellness in all areas of life physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual.  Psychiatry, intensive psychotherapy, and 12-step addiction work are combined throughout all phases of treatment, along with a wide selection of experiential and expressive therapies.  By treating the total condition, and the whole individual, not just addiction, our clients benefit beyond all measure and long lasting recovery can be achieved.

Primary Care Program

The primary care program is designed to educate clients about the disease of alcoholism and other addictions.  Chemical dependency demands that we provide accurate information regarding  the progressive, chronic, and fatal nature of this disease.  Through a wide range of lectures, work shops, videos, individual counseling, group therapy, writing and reading assignments, the client gains the information, insight and solutions needed to accept there disease.  Additionally, we have incorporated principal of a holistic life style into our program including our efforts to provide each client the added benefits of nutritional counseling and a healthy daily diet, also utilizing such treatment as acupuncture, yoga and massage.  To further support holistic recovery, each client will be under the medical care and guidance of our physicians and nutritionists.  We strive to be sure you have competent medical care to assist in our endeavor to help you prevent further illness, facilitate recovery, and to optimize your health in the future.

Day Treatment Program

Our Day Treatment Program is designed to provide maximum support to clients who are transitioning from Primary Care and require more structure. Treatment is Monday through Saturday, giving clients and family an opportunity to attend the family program. Clients attend treatment during the day, while spending the night in their own home.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Our IOP Program is offered for individuals who need the safety, structure and support of a treatment program, but do not require Primary Care.  Our IOP Program allows clients to continue with their lives at home and work, while receiving the treatment they need for their addiction or co-occurring disorder. Our schedules are flexible and are classes are generally during the evening to accommodate work and school.

Family Program

The staff at Tropical Oasis understands that family relationships and dynamics can become damaged and break down when a family member becomes addicted.  We encourage family members to take an active part in the recovery there loved one and to attend our family program on the weekends.  Our family program consists of several groups and lectures focused on addiction and other related topics to better help the family understand the disease of addiction.  In addition, we offer and encourage family session meetings with a therapist to help open the lines of communication that often become blocked due to addiction.

For family unable to attent our family program, alternative ways of communication are used to facilitate family therapy.  Internet and conference calls are a couple of tools used to begin the process of healing.

Located in the Canton of Orotina in Alajuela province is the small fruit-growing town of Orotina, lying in Costa Rica’s lush and green Central Valley. Situated in the north Pacific region of the country, Orotina is a very typical agricultural Costa Rican town. Found at the foot of the Avocado Mountains and serving as a halfway point between Atenas and Quepos, Orotina is a great place to visit any time of the year due to the excellent weather conditions that prevail here.

Approximately a one hour and a half drive west of the capital city San Jose; to reach Orotina one has to drive through picturesque and charming small towns and villages amid beautiful sceneries, long winding roads and verdant mountains. A popular stopover when traveling to Playa Jaco or Quepos, Orotina itself has one real tourist attraction, TURU BA RI Tropical Park. However, the main reason why so many people come here is because this small town is renowned throughout the country for its amazing variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Often nicknamed the ‘the fruit town,’ Orotina is just a 25 minute drive to the nearby Pacific Coast beaches and is a stones throw away from TURU BA RI, an eco-adventure theme park that is just 7 km away. This tropical park is a nature lover’s dream and is perfect for those who enjoy bird watching or love adventures. Also close to Orotina is the small town of San Mateo. This town is popular with tourists who mainly visit the Ceramic San Mateo, a ceramics shop which sells pottery made by local and regional artists.
